Former United State president Barak Obama has just finished delivering the 16th Annual Nelson Mandela lecture held for the first time at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Illovo, Johannesburg. The lecture was a partnership between the Mandela Foundation and the Motsepe Foundation. In his speech the former president said Mandela’s struggle was particularly to end apartheid in this part of the world through sacrifice. Two former EFF leaders in KwaZulu-Natal have formed a new political party, allegedly after consulting former president Jacob Zuma for advice. The new party, Mazibuye African Congress, promises to champion the cause of black people, with its leaders saying the membership will not be open to white South Africans.

With another petrol price hike looming in August, the Finance Minister says that government departments will also feel the pinch. In a written parliamentary reply, Nhlanhla Nene says that between 2013 and 2017, spending on fuel by government departments has continued to grow faster than inflation.
